Resilience and Well-being in Research

A three part webinar series by Desiree Dickerson

These will be provided for free, as recorded webinars that you can watch at your convenience (Available until end of September )

In 2020, we worked with Desiree to develop a webinar series to support our community manage the multiple stressors they were experiencing due to the pandemic and the major shifts happening in our work and home lives (and the increasingly blurred boundaries between the two).

In 2021, many of those stressors are still present and, in some cases, amplified. In recognition of this, we are sharing the webinar series with our community again in the hope that it can support you at this challenging time.

Register now and we will send you links to all three webinars to watch at a time and place that suits you!.

“Desiree was excellent at providing achievable ways we could make a difference to our way of thinking in our everyday life.”

About the Seminar Series

One of the biggest stressors for many at this time is lack access to do their work, be that due to lab closures or caring duties, and the fear that this provokes that you will lose productivity and not remain competitive in a highly competitive funding system. We know we can’t immediately take away any of these stressors but hopefully we can offer something that helps you manage these fears. There are three sessions in this series.

Coping in the moment: Making micro-changes – maintaining a solid emotional and mental foundation through micro habit changes.

Taming the inner critic: Explore how your mindset and the mental models you hold shape your thoughts, your mood, and your choices, and your productivity.

Shifting the spotlight: Learn how to highlight the areas your life that bring joy and fulfillment and build on your strengths and values.

About Desiree

As a former postdoctoral researcher in the neurosciences and a clinical psychologist, Desiree has worked at both ends of the spectrum - from (lab) bench to bedside. Desiree’s goal has always been translational science - taking science and breaking it down into meaningful, digestible tools for those who stand to benefit from it most. What past participants have said.

“Desiree spoke my language. Her framing made once impossible behavioural change achievable. I’ve incorporated many microchanges to my day and as a result I have more energy + my productivity has improved.”

“It was great to talk about mental health, particularly how we are all feeling during COVID-19 and in academia. It helped to normalise these feelings and to recognise that we are not alone. It was great to hear from an expert that could provide us with helpful tools we could implement in our day-today life. It was great to have the handouts so that we can refer back to these tools.”
