Respect in Research Project

Information for Expert Advisory Group

This project aims to support health and medical research organisations to actively promote gender equality and effectively prevent and respond to sexual harassment in the health and medical research sector.

This project is a collaboration between WiSPP and the Australian Association of Medical Research Institutes (AMMRI) and is supported by the Victorian Government.

More about the project:

This project is in response to The Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission’s Respect@Work report. One of the recommendations of the Report was the need for industry-targeted, easy-to-use tools and resources that are clear, practical, victim-centred, easily accessible from a central location and widely publicised.

The objective of this project is to provide evidence-based recommendations and practical tools to preventing and responding to sexual harassment for AAMRI member institutes and the broader health and medical research sector.

About the Expert Advisory Group

The role of the Expert Advisory Group will be to provide expert guidance on existing best practice resources, policies and training programs to the specific context of the Health and Medical Research Sector.

We are committed to ensuring that participants can contribute safely throughout the process and are able to contribute in ways that are appropriate to their capacity.

Time commitment:

  • Meet twice for workshop sessions. We plan on the first session being in June and another later in the year in October or November (dependent on availability). Each workshop will be around 2 hours long and members can choose to attend a workshop based on their interest and/or expertise in a certain topic area. Workshops will be held virtually and be facilitated by an experienced facilitator with relevant expertise.

  • Members will be asked provided feedback, asynchronously, on a draft recommendations report and the final report.

  • Members will also be asked to provide advice, as appropriate and based on their expertise, to the project team as required in between sessions.

  • The Advisory Group will be supported by the Project Team including, designated expert Senior Policy Officers who will develop detailed briefing materials for workshops and prepare draft recommendations for review by the Advisory Group. Materials will be distributed for review at least a week prior to workshops.
